Looking for news from 200 years ago? Go to Google News

Google, the world’s most popular search engine has just introduced a new feature in “Google News”. The service allows users to search major British and American newspapers for news, even when it is 200 years old. To obtain full text access the user will have to take out a subscription with the individual newspaper. All this has been made possible by a new agreement between Google and the owners of major British and American newspapers including the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Guardian. For the moment, the new service is only available in Google’s English language version. But its likely that in coming months, the company will launch a similar service for Italy. This will be a major innovation. At the moment, articles published in the last 10 years are easy to find online but access to older articles is very difficult.
